March 25, 2026 - Hunterdon County Human Services Advisory Council

On Wednesday, March 25, One Voice of Hunterdon delivered an informative presentation to the Hunterdon County Human Services Advisory Council (HSAC) on emerging opioid‑related drug trends, including Kratom. What is Kratom?

  • A psychoactive plant substance that may produce stimulant or opioid‑like effects, depending on dose

  • Can be habit‑forming, especially with regular or high‑dose use

  • Widely available in Hunterdon County at gas stations and vape shops in powders, capsules, teas, and liquid extracts (“shots”)

  • Carries real risks, including dependence, unpredictable potency, and serious side effects

  • Not approved by the FDA for any medical use

  • U.S. health agencies advise caution as research and regulation continue

The presentation was well received and sparked meaningful discussion.

The HSAC is an official county‑level advisory body that helps guide how human services are planned, coordinated, and strengthened to better serve Hunterdon County residents.
